Applications are due the 1st Monday in March of the applicant’s sophomore year. Please note: In 2012, the program will continue to accept applicants from students in their junior year as well. The deadline for juniors is October 1, 2012.
Junior applicants will be notified of their acceptance into the program in December of 2012. Sophomore applicants will be notified about their acceptance in April 2012.
How To Apply in 3 Easy Steps
- Attend a Program Planning Meeting or Open House in your first or second year.
Open Houses are arranged through Columbia College and take place in the fall semester. Program Planning Meetings are arranged through Barnard College and take place in both the fall and spring semesters. All students are welcome to both Open Houses and Program Planning Meetings.
- Submit Program Application in October of your sophomore year (in 2012, juniors may still apply).
Applications have 4 parts:
- General Information
- Program Plan – demonstrates when you intend to complete required coursework. Secondary students need to include the content area program plan worksheet for their certification subject area (available for download on this webpage). Elementary students need only complete the worksheet included with the general application.
- Essay
- Recommendations – provide the name and contact information of 2 faculty members who will write letters of recommendation
- Interview
After reviewing applications, program faculty will meet with all qualified candidates individually. Candidates will be contacted by the program’s administrative assistant to schedule the interview.
Criteria for Admission
Admission criteria include good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or higher), evidence of interest in the field of education, and capacity for growth in areas vital to the teaching-learning experience.
